2015 2nd International Conference of the African Virtual University
Theme: Linking Open Education and eLearning Research to Practice
 The call for papers is now open for the 2015 International Conference of the African Virtual University (AVU).This will be the second conference of the AVU and like the first conference in 2013, this conference will bring together researchers, policymakers and practitioners seeking to make sense of the challenges and explore emerging opportunities afforded by ICTs and open, distance and e-learning (ODeL) in addressing issues of access, equity and quality of higher education and training in Africa. Submissions should especially try to address the issue of linking open education and eLearning research to both policy and practice We invite papers from a broad range of research areas in ODeL at the macro, meso and micro levels. Papers should be submitted under one of the sixteen research areas (tracks) provided in the submissions guidelines. Like last year, mobile learning, MOOCs and OER still remain of particular interest. This year we also invite papers from IT industry professionals that focus on ICT innovations and solutions for education (including mobile technologies). | We would like to invite you to register as a reviewer for submissions to the AVU conference as well as the upcoming online journal on open, distance and e-learning. As a reviewer, you play a significant part in ensuring that submissions are of the highest academic quality, and your feedback is important for the authors’ and editors’ evaluation and revision of the submissions. Reviewers who consistently exhibit sound reviews and respond promptly to the editorial requests will be recognized. In addition, providing your list of publications and presentations relevant to your indicated areas of expertise/interest will greatly increase the likelihood of being selected as a reviewer. | A number of attempts have been made in the past to organize research in open and distance learning. Some of these studies are cited in Zawacki-Ritcher (2009) in a follow-up investigation to help organize research in open and distance learning. In his investigation, Zawacki sought to: (i) develop a categorization of research areas in distance education; (ii) identify the most important research areas in distance education; and (iii) identify the most neglected research areas in distance education. Based on an extensive literature review and a Delphi study, three broad research levels—macro, meso and micro—with 15 research areas were derived to organize the body of knowledge in distance education. |
