Global Book Alliance: ADEA and USAID organize a Forum on Publishing Collaborative at the Nigerian International Book Fair
Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) 7th May 2019 – The Books and Learning Materials (BLM) section of the Inter-Country Quality Node on Teaching and Learning (ICQN-TL) of the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) is organizing a Forum on “Publishing Collaborative” in Lagos (Nigeria) from 8th to 9th May 2019 at Jelili Adebisi Omotola Hall, University of Lagos.
The forum is part of the long-lasting partnership between the Global Book Alliance (GBA) and ADEA, supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
This key meeting is a follow-up to the recommendations made by African Book Industry stakeholders during one of the main workshops organized by ADEA in January 2018. The main objective of the forum is to bring together relevant stakeholders to appraise and agree on the Action Plan prepared by ADEA for a Publishing Collaborative (PC) under the GBA; discuss on a coordination mechanism to manage the PC and to create awareness for GBA partnership among the stakeholders attending the Nigeria International Book Fair.
The Global Book Alliance aims to transform book development, procurement and distribution, especially in Africa and Asia, to ensure that children everywhere have the essential books and learning materials produced in languages children use and understand, including braille and sign languages. So many studies have shown that children do not have reading materials in languages they speak and understand, which facilitate early reading acquisition. To this end, USAID and partners have developed this Alliance to address the scarcity of titles in African languages, improve the efficiency of procurement and financing and strengthen supply chain management systems.
The Chairman of the African Publishers Association (APNET) Mr. Samuel Kolawola will address the Forum, which will be attended by more than 30 prominent personalities representing the Nigerian Book Industry, International Publishers Association, and different African countries.
